Halfway mark

Mar 4, 2010 3:59pm

20 weeks today. Which means that this little creature squirming around in my uterus is supposedly halfway cooked. Of course with Bobby, 20 weeks was over halfway, but we are counting on me staying pregnant a little longer this time. Or at least if this one comes...

Should I be concerned?

Feb 12, 2010 10:11am

Bobby and I have a game that I started back when he was a wee little newborn. We pretended to eat the each other. Like fingers or noses, etc. Of course for a long time I was the one who got to munch on his chubby little fingers and toes....

Doom

Jan 31, 2010 1:43pm

I'm amazing this time around by how much faster I am showing. Baby/uterus is barely above the pubic bone, but I've already had to break out the maternity tops. I avoided stretch marks with Bobby (helps if you only go to 37 weeks), but I think I look...

How judgemental am I?

Jan 29, 2010 11:08am

I took Bobby to a museum and to lunch with 2 other friends and their toddlers yesterday. He had a great time. I had a great time watching Bobby play with his friends and chatting with my friends. But there was a serious downer to the day which...

Oops, I did it again

Jan 25, 2010 8:53am

Got myself knocked up again. Approaching 15 weeks on Thursday, and due at the end of July. 9 days after Bobby's original due date, and about a month after his actual birth day. Let's see how close I make it this time. We made the decision to...

Sigh

Jan 17, 2010 10:03pm

Dear Mr Limbo - I am sure that President Obama was just hoping praying for a huge, tragic natural disaster EXACTLY like the earthquake last week in Haiti just to help shore up his public image. He couldn't be providing aid because he actually cares about helping people,...

At least he didn't try to eat it

Jan 13, 2010 8:49pm

My poor little guy. First he gets rejected by preschool (though, I'm sure he doesn't care one bit about that), and then today, he got his first vomiting stomach bug. I probably should have seen it coming last night when he couldn't even be tempted to eat a...

Well digested

Jan 8, 2010 9:43am

I'm a nurse, right? At my first job I contended with body fluids from all orifices, missing limbs and enormous, purulent wounds. Now, there is a little more sugar and spice, and a little less of the gory, but I still see my share of fluids and the...

Um, Happy Holidays?

Jan 4, 2010 11:34am

Wait, did I blink or something? Because suddenly it is 2010. 4 days into 2010. My husband is back at work, our tree is down, and somewhere in there we did celebrate Christmas and the New Years. Sort of and sandwiched in between my many, many...

Sleep to dream

Dec 16, 2009 7:41pm

I don't usually share dreams here, because normally no one else ever find your dreams interesting. But I have to share now, because clearly there is something totally screwed up going on in my psyche. 2 nights ago I dreamed that I was being chased around a decrepit Victorian...

And we're back

Dec 14, 2009 9:03pm

The trip back to Philly went off quite well. I'm not sure how 9 days goes by so quickly, but there you go. It's over, and I am back in rainy, gray, cold Seattle. It's now dark at 4:30. I know it's not cool to...

Vacation

Dec 2, 2009 5:16pm

It has been a busy 2 weeks - work, getting knocked on my ass by a death cold, more work, with a 2 days of cooking for Thanksgiving mixed up in there somewhere. The thing about working night shift is that I never get enough sleep, and...

I'm not sure who's running the show these days

Nov 18, 2009 4:15pm

Apparently Bobby has been taking lessons from The Donald. Monday he told me I was fired. I'm going to blame that one on my husband. No he's not an Apprentice watcher, but he has a habit of saying "Fired" when someone makes a mistake. Since I...

SNAG

Nov 13, 2009 3:37pm

Where did our society get the idea that guys needed to be all stoic-like, hiding any sign of emotions away? We even have a derisive acronym for guys who are too in tune with their feelings - The Sensitive New Age Guy. Clearly that message has...

Night on the town

Nov 8, 2009 3:39pm

You know how sometimes you get yourself all excited and worked up about some upcoming event, and then the actual event can't meet exceptions? I was a little worried that I was going to experience something of the sort this past week. John Cleese, one of my favorite comedic...

Time for a change

Nov 3, 2009 10:09am

Let me tell you what - this falling back thing can suck it. Toddlers don't know that they are supposed to sleep an hour later, nor do cats realize that their feeding times have been bumped back by an hour. Here is a math problem for you -...

Yes, the glass can be half full

Oct 23, 2009 9:19am

My plans for today involved a run and planting 100+ bulbs that just arrived yesterday. The weather's plan for today? Dark, chilly and wet. Not buckets of wet like last week, but not inviting to a morning spent outdoors. Does anyone else ever feel like the weather...

Outbreak

Oct 15, 2009 9:01pm

It has been constant swine flu triage lately at work. Seriously. Swine flu is bad news for pregnant women, and our docs have instituted the policy that any patient with flu/cold symptoms needs to be triaged either through the clinic or after hours, through L&D. I'm...

Sick children (but not my own)

Oct 7, 2009 9:43am

We have had a confirmed case of H1N1, aka swine flu, in our NICU. Ok, so bad, bad news. The reaction of our management? Put all pregnant, laboring and post-partum patients into a reverse isolation where anyone entering their room has to wear a mask. Hello,...

Last Gasps of Summer

Sep 27, 2009 9:01pm

The weather this weekend has been fantastically gorgeous. Sunny, upper 60s, beautiful. Tomorrow, however, a dark cloud is supposed to come, dumping cold, cold rain on us all week long. I had big hopes for this weekend - plans of a family bike ride come to mind....

He talks pretty

Sep 25, 2009 9:41am

Bobby is in the middle of a language explosion, and I am constantly reminded how quickly kids pick stuff up. Last night we were at one of Seattle's lovely 5 way, stop-signed regulated intersections. As usual, drivers were having a hard time figuring out right of way, and...

More babies, breastfeeding, etc.

Sep 21, 2009 9:19pm

We've had a few odd nights where everything starts off crazy, crazy, crazy, with people walking in delivering babies 20 minutes later, while the majority of the OB team is back in the OR with an emergency section, and then suddenly it is dead, and the board is graced with...

Mr Tomato Head

Sep 17, 2009 3:20pm

From the garden...The problem with personifying your produce is that you feel just a little bit guilty when you slice into it with the knife. Like you are hearing little tomato screams of agony....

More work stories

Sep 1, 2009 10:51am

One of my worst nightmares (of the petty variety, since I have far worse fears hanging over my head at any given time) is getting a phone call from work wondering why I am not there. I am so paranoid, because I would hate to look irresponsible. My schedule...

Vroom

Aug 25, 2009 9:13pm

When I was a small child, I had a blanket that traveled with me. Yellow Blanket was my faithful companion, and I was unable to sleep without it until at least middle school. It was soft, warm and reassuring against the demons threatening my sleep. My son? At this...
