Ran up to the Yoga dojo that belongs to my friend Khalsa Sada Anand. Above is the tea room where we relax and chat with Khalsa and others before going to the dojo next door. In this picture above you see the Nara valley (and my house in there somewhere)...
The richness of vinyl records: beautifully imperfect
Mar 14, 2010 7:57am
This weekend I've been going through my old record collection, a collection that was in storage in the USA essentially since I left home for college a billion years ago. A lot has change in the world since I was in high school, but I realized while listening to my...

The flaw in the educational system is that you live your life in quest of A's - Neil deGrasse Tyson
Mar 11, 2010 12:15am
A fantastic audio interview here on science literacy with one of my modern day heros, Neil deGrasse Tyson. Not just for science teachers, however. This is interesting stuff for all reasonable humans. I agree with Dr. Tyson. Inspiring stuff. Listen to the whole thing here. http://snipurl.com/urm3f "The flaw in...

Jazz LIVE in Osaka this Saturday, 7:00pm
Mar 10, 2010 12:13am
Above is a flip video clip (poor sound quality/balance) of John and I trading fours in the jazz standard Satin Doll at Moga Joga. I think this was shot before Christmas last year. I am sad that one of my friends can't make it to the gig, but really looking...

Obviously I have no sense of fashion (apparently) when it comes to ties
Mar 9, 2010 3:48am
At least one of my friends in Tokyo did not much fancy my choice of tie today. "too blue!" But one does need a hint of color, doesn't one? Right, back to black t-shirts I guess...:-) (self portrait on bullet train home). Sent from my iPhone Permalink | Leave a...

Never Say Never
Mar 8, 2010 5:07am
I am a huge Tom Grant fan. I first met him when I was about 16 at one of his gigs in Oregon. If there ever was an Oregon sound or a Portland sound then Tom Grant certainly embodies it. Tom's sound fits the modern sensibilities of Japan as well....
We'll have this moment forever. But never again.
Mar 7, 2010 8:32pm
This is a line from one of my favorite jazz ballads. It's a kind of mantra for me, though I constantly need to remind myself of its meaning. (I talked about it here on the PZ site a couple of years ago.) In spite of the slide above, the idea...
“Sitting quietly, doing nothing, spring comes, and the grass grows by itself."
Mar 7, 2010 3:26pm
In spring, all things seem possible. There's a sense of rebirth of sorts. A natural feeling that even peace and love can be found...sometimes right in front of you. (The wall of Osaka Castle in background.) Sent from my iPhone Permalink | Leave a comment » ...
Cold morning. Yet spring comes.
